The date for the first Strategic Plan Workshop has been set for Saturday 28 June. This day will bring together current Wimmera Lutheran College Board members, the Executive Leadership team and also invited representatives from the three communities. Phil McCredden from Ecclesia Leadership will coordinate this workshop. He has started his planning by viewing existing Strategic Plans of the 3 schools, mission and vision statements and other important identity documents. I am excited to be working with Phil who will bring a wealth of experience to this role, having previously worked with a number of organisations, including amalgamated entities. I look forward to sharing the outcomes of this workshop as we continue to develop the identity of Wimmera Lutheran College.
WLC Branding and Logo
WLC has started to make contact with various Marketing Companies to engage in conversations regarding the development of WLC’s Branding and Logo. Some of these companies have provided a scope of works and also quotes for their work which has been helpful as we consider future options and possibilities. The WLC Board realises that brand development is important but also understands the need to ensure the new branding and logo is representative of Lutheran Education across the three schools in the Wimmera, and therefore needs to be in line with the discussions and decisions around strategic plans.

End of Semester Reports
Staff across the College are currently undertaking diagnostic testing to inform students’ end of semester reports. Whilst this testing is a good diagnostic tool, staff always look at a variety of evidence demonstrated in the classroom to ensure a thorough process is used when determining a child’s progress against Australian curriculum standards.
In light of the alignment of end of semester reporting with all Wimmera Lutheran College campuses, please see below important Information on how to read your child’s report.
Assessment Scales
Horsham campus has previously utilised a 7-point scale which has now been streamlined to a 5-point scale. This ensures consistency across the campuses with more clarity for parents.
The grading scale previously used was:
The new grading scale to be used across the primary campuses is:
Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher if you require any further clarification, or you may contact me directly.

Secondary School News (30 May, 2025)
This week, our staff have been taking time to reflect on their wellbeing and consider what they need to thrive in their profession. It’s a timely reminder that our students can also benefit from thinking about how to find balance in their own lives. While academic success is important, it’s equally vital that students make time for rest, exercise, and the activities they enjoy. One helpful strategy we encourage is for students to reflect on a typical week and plan their time thoughtfully—ensuring they’re making space for both study and wellbeing.
Pathways and Subject Selection Evening
On Wednesday night, we hosted our Subject Selection Evening in the Senior Centre. This event aimed to showcase our subject offerings and begin the selection process for students entering Years 10, 11, and 12 in 2026. It was a well-attended and valuable opportunity for our school community to connect and explore future learning pathways.
If you were unable to attend, don’t worry—keep an eye on the HUB. We’ll soon be sharing a dedicated HUB page with all the key information, links, and videos from the evening.
We are committed to supporting every student in finding the pathway that suits them best. Subject Counselling interviews will begin shortly, and families will receive further details soon.
Year 10 and 11 Exams
Our Year 10 and 11 students will be undertaking exams over the coming week. We wish them all the best and encourage them to view this as a valuable opportunity to practice their revision and study skills in preparation for future assessments.
Think You Know
Last week, the Proactive Police Unit visited the College to speak with our Middle School students about cyber safety, with a focus on staying safe while using social media. It was an engaging and valuable session that helped students better understand how to protect themselves online. We encourage families to continue this important conversation at home.
Secondary Musical: The Addams Family
On 7- 9th August Wimmera Lutheran College will be presenting the musical “The Addams Family” at the Horsham Town Hall. The cast of 30 secondary students have been rehearsing since the beginning of the year on Monday and Wednesday after school, as well as Sunday afternoons.
There is a real buzz in the air during rehearsals with students practicing lines, singing and choreography and parents and friends of the school practicing playing live music, sewing costumes, painting props and building sets. The excitement and anticipation is building. It is going to be a great show!

State Intermediate Girls Tennis
On Friday, May 16, Eliza B, Victoria B, Serena J and Mia L competed at the State Intermediate Girls Tennis Finals. Simply making the event is a huge achievement, as it means that the girls are one of the best tennis teams in the state. The Year 9/10 competition was challenging, and the girls had many close sets all day that they were just unable to secure the key points required. By taking the overall win against Cranbourne West Secondary College, the girls were able to finish in third place in their pool, just missing out on progressing to the crossover finals.
The team didn’t leave Melbourne empty handed, though. The girls were awarded the SSV Spirit of Sport Award, which is a new award in 2025 designed to recognise and promote fair play, sportsmanship and respectful competition. The award is determined by the convener and captains of the participating teams on the day of the event, and is to be considered as equal to winning a state championship. Congratulations to the girls on earning this huge accolade for WLC!
AHPVSS Round 2 - Tailem Bend 6-hour
Despite the patchy showers at the start and end of the 6-hour HPV race at Tailem Bend, the sun came out and we were treated to a spectacle of racing on Saturday, 17 May.
The competition was red-hot throughout the entire event, with our five trikes battling it out in their various categories to earn points for the 2025 National Championship. Our girls teams faced the full intensity of these competitions, with both the Hurricane (JS) and Avalanche (MS) teams holding off their opponents to win their categories by 1 lap each. Both of our girls teams have won the first two races of the season, which puts them in a great spot in the National Championship picture.
Our Thunder (JS) boys were around the pointy end of the field for much of the race, even having a lead after the first couple of hours, but unfortunately the weather and a couple of mechanical issues meant they slipped off the podium to finish in fourth place on the day. The Firestorm (MS) boys started the race slowly, with a lagging chain causing them to fall outside of the top ten. In a credit to their resilience, the boys continued to press forward and claw back as many positions as they could, ending the day in eighth place, and on the same lap as sixth.
Tsunami, our mixed open team, also had a great day, finishing second in their category to solidify their hold on silver for this year’s National Championship.
Congratulations to Charlize vZ for setting the fastest lap for the Middle School Girls category on the day, completing the 2.8 km circuit in 4:19.743; an average speed of almost 39 km/h!
We are just two weeks away from the third round in the season, where our Junior School students will compete in the 5-hour Junior School-only event at Victoria Park in Adelaide. Good luck to all the students involved.
Greater Western Region Cross Country
On Monday, over 30 students from WLC Horsham’s Primary and Secondary campuses travelled to Warrnambool to take on the hills and the weather in the Greater Western Region Cross Country Finals.
It was a cold and windy day, but thankfully the rain held off. All students performed well against tough competition. The highlights from the day were Charlize vZ (14G), Matilda S (14G) and Ellua B (15G) finishing inside the Top 12 positions and earning a place in the State Finals later this year. Additionally, the performance of our 14 Girls Team was enough to earn them second place in the teams competition. Congratulations to Charlize vZ, Matilda S, Lydika B, Alexis B and Pippa K for your efforts!
Black Ranges Year 7 Girls Netball
On Tuesday, a team of hopeful Year 7s went to Central Park to represent WLC at the Black Ranges Netball Finals. The girls put some strong performances together early in the day, winning their first two games, before coming up against a very strong Stawell side in their third match.
After a narrow loss to Stawell, the team bounced back to win against Horsham College 2 and book a place in the Semi Finals. Unfortunately, the girls couldn’t match it against the impressive Horsham College 1 team, who didn’t have a team get within 30 goals of them in the pool matches. The girls had a strong performance, but it wasn’t enough, losing to the eventual champions. Congratulations on your efforts, and thank you to Ms Reid and Miss Ellis for coaching and umpiring on the day.
Black Ranges Year 8 AFL
On Wednesday, a group of Year 7 and 8 students competed in the Black Ranges Year 8 AFL 9s competition at City Oval. The boys had a strong start to the day, defeating Murtoa 37 - 27. However, the bigger size of the Year 8 students they were competing against, as well as the extra numbers they had available made it tricky for them to win any additional games.
Over the course of the day, the boys all demonstrated teamwork, responsibility and fair play, working effectively to achieve the best possible result. Thank you to Mr Pickering for coaching the team, and to Mrs Both for convening the event for the Black Ranges Division.
Black Range Intermediate Boys AFL and Girls Netball
Today, our Year 9 and 10 Girls Netball and Boys AFL teams travel to Stawell to compete against the other Black Ranges schools. Good luck to all students for this event, and thank you to Miss Cashin, Miss Ellis and Mr Pickering for attending.
